What Opel models look like now, which were once popular with us

Despite all the jokes about Opel, our brand was normally appreciated by people, although they never showed very large sales in our country, for example, like Chevrolet. Now there is a lot of noise about the return of Opel with one Grandland X crossover, at the price of a new Rav4 or a good Kodiaq package. I propose to take a look at how things are with those models that are well known to everyone — Corsa, Astra and Insignia.

The new Corsa is already built on the PSA platform, one could say that it is no longer an Opel, but still no, approach, design, ergonomics. Corsa sold very well in Europe in comparison with other models of the company. They love such compact city hatchbacks there, and the boundaries of equipment, depending on the size and class of cars, have long been blurred.

There may be adaptive cruise control, 2-zone climate control, a digital instrument panel, lane keep and many other comfort features, for example, an electronic handbrake with automatic hold in traffic, wireless charging, a panoramic roof. In general, the interior and its ergonomics are the strong point of the Corsa, even in the older models that we have yet been able to try.

With Corsa, you can conditionally choose three engines: electric, 1.2 gasoline with a capacity of 75 to 130 forces, and a 1.6 diesel with a capacity of 102 forces. With these internal combustion engines, an 8-speed hydraulic automatic or 5-speed mechanics is installed, only mechanics are available with a diesel engine, although the difference in torque with 130 horsepower gasoline is only 20 Nm.

We don’t really like small cars, we need more so that everyone feels the owner’s advantage, so let’s move on to a more interesting car — Opel Astra, this is certainly not Belaz, but still c-class, comfortable, moderately roomy. Now two bodies are available — a hatchback and a station wagon, in Europe sedans are not particularly in demand. So far it’s still an Opel, but the Astra will soon become related to the 308 Peugeot model.

Astra also put 3-cylinder 1.2 gasoline ICE with a turbine. But most of all I like the version with a 9-speed automatic transmission and a 1.5 liter diesel engine with 122 horsepower.

Let’s move on to complete comfort and an above-average level of respect — the Opel Insignia. Of course, I didn’t see it live, but if I presented it in a row, for example, Mazda 6, Toyota Camry, Kia Optima, let there be another Octavia 1.8, it would probably be a difficult choice — a beautiful car in the picture, but the interior is already a little outdated, after all 2017 Soon we plan to move to PSA and update.

They put on the Insignia a 2-liter gasoline with all-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic transmission, 260 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. There are more popular 1.5 options, as well as 1.5, 1.6 and 2.0 diesel engines with all-wheel drive.

What do you think, would you like to see such an Opel return?
