Many owners of diesel cars, as well as VAG cars with small-capacity gasoline engines, know that in these cars, warm air from the stove vents begins to flow within a minute or two after starting a cold car. (Naturally, it depends on the vehicle configuration, year of manufacture and a number of other factors)

This is a cunning and rather expensive move by automakers to solve the problem with diesel engines that do not warm up well at idle and low-volume ones, for example, 1.4 Tsi. It consists in installing an additional electric heater in the heater housing, as a rule, they put them in a cassette — first the stove radiator, through which the antifreeze passes, and then the electric heater. Since the electric heater heats up very quickly, after a couple of minutes you can feel quite warm air (I had this option on the Octavia A5).

One of the familiar lovers of delving into his car showed how he modified his Lada Priora according to this principle, spending only 1,500 rubles. He took the VAG heater from disassembly as a basis, its price was only 1000 rubles. (in general, RTS kits are very expensive on VAG, but the price is high if the kit is sold, because, depending on the generation, it could even have its own control unit. When somewhere separately heating elements are sold quite cheaply, because to. outside the kit, few people need it).

He also needed good section copper wires, copper terminals, an 80 Amp fuse and 3 relays for each heating element in the heater. Management was carried out through a button in the cabin. And in order to increase the load on the on-board network evenly, a small microcircuit is used, which allows you to close the relay in series.

As it turned out, this heater fits into the body of the stove almost like a native one, the only thing you need to do before that is to make a hole for the output of the power wires, and then solder it. It is located to the left of the liquid heater radiator. The native radiator falls into its rightful place without any additional modifications.

Everything is done quite reliably, wires PV3 with a cross section of 10 mm ^ 2 for ground and plus are used, a relay and a fuse are used. In the future, the heater was also automatically turned off when the coolant temperature reached 70 degrees and automatically turned on when it was below -5 degrees outside, manual button control remained. the electric heater circuit is switched on only if the ignition is switched on and the stove fan is switched on.

As a result, after 3 minutes in the cabin, you can safely remove the hat and other insulation accessories. The engine began to warm up faster due to the increased load on the generator, the Priora’s native generator of 115 Amperes was not enough. The refinement is interesting, but it clearly requires good knowledge in electrical and electronics in order to do everything reliably and once again not to worry about a 1 kilowatt heater.

Of course, this is not a panacea and not a solution for everyone and everyone — this is an experiment, a specific person with a specific Priora, the results of which, personally, he more than liked. Moreover, later a more efficient 140 Amp generator was installed on the car.
