Before moving on to the review itself, I would like to figure out what kind of brand it is — Schwinn, and where its roots grow from.

The company was founded in Chicago back in 1895 and was called «Arnold, Schwinn & Company». It was founded by mechanical engineer Ignaz Schwin and his partner Adolf Arnold.

The late 19th century was a great time to get started with the cycling craze in America.

Today the American bicycle Schwinn is a classic of style and high quality in a modern design. He is a multi-generational favorite and an «American cycling icon».

Many stars of the past and present have or have had their own Schwinn bike, among them: Elvis Presley, Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Kate Hudson, Ryan Gosling.

But let’s get back to the main topic of the article — a review of the Schwinn EC1 electric bike. The manufacturer provides a lifetime warranty for the bike frame and a 2 year warranty for electrical equipment.

The main characteristics of the mechanical component are as follows:

  • wheels with a diameter of 26 «, tires 2.1»
  • aluminum frame, designed for riders weighing up to 113 kg
  • 7 Speed Shimano Tourney RDTZ31 derailleur, Shimano Revoshift
  • mechanical disc brakes

The bike comes complete with fenders, a rear rack and a footrest, that is, for comfortable operation in a city, in fact, you will not need to buy anything in addition, except for lights for driving in the dark.

Now let’s move on to the fun part — the electric part of the bike. The battery is designed for a nominal voltage of 36V, that is, in a charged state 42V, in a discharged state 30V.

The platform is fixed to the frame with three screws, the battery is installed on it and locked with a key. Judging by its size, the battery consists of 40 Li-ion cells, and has a capacity of about 10 ampere-hours.

A 250 W motor is spiked into the rear wheel, and based on the class and price of the bike, it has a single-stage gearbox. Dividing the power by voltage, we get the controller current equal to only 6A.

The display is the simplest one, with LEDs showing the battery charge and pedaling assist on a scale of 1 to 5.

The bike reaches a speed of 32 km / h and is able to ride in assist mode (and there is no other option, since there is no throttle stick) up to 50 km on a relatively flat surface.

Let’s summarize.

The bike is quite rigid, as it has no shock absorbers, and is designed for urban use on bike paths and sidewalks.

2.1 «tires and a spring-loaded saddle are the only things that will make riding on bumps more or less comfortable.

The engine power is low, and in combination with a single-stage gearbox, it is obvious that it is hardly suitable for driving in mountainous areas — rather on flat areas.

In general, the bike looks beautiful, holistic and harmonious. It’s nice that the wiring is hidden in the frame and is not conspicuous.
